Big Bear Lake, California
Southern
California's Premier Resort Community
Big Bear Lake is located in the San
Bernardino Mountains, only 2 1/2 hours or less from all Southern California
Communities and less than 5 hours from Las Vegas and Phoenix.
The Big Bear Valley is home to TWO ski resorts, Big
Bear Mountain and Snow Summit (www.bigbearmountainresort.com).
These great resorts have recently joined together to bring skiiers and
snowboarders twice as much fun. During the summer months, these resorts
offer golfing and mountain bike challenges and the chair lift ride to the top
of Snow Summit is not to be missed!
In addition to winter recreation and snow
play, Big Bear Lake has GREAT fishing. The best times of the year to go
after trout, bass and catfish are the spring and the fall and don't miss the
Trout Fishing tournaments in May and June.
In the summer, the skiiers and boarders
are to be found on the lake, water-skiing and wake-boarding. Boats of all
sizes including floating parties on pontoon boats dot the lake and the jet
skiis wind in and out and parasailors fly overhead. (Big Bear Municipal Water District)
On the mountains, hikers, mountain
bikers, horseback riders and four-wheelers explore the fire roads and
incredible variety of trails and paths that cover the forest covered
mountainsides. Awesome views are everywhere from cliffs to mountain
meadows. There are also great offroad riding opportunities in nearby high
desert parks.
Live to Shop? Shop to Live?
Visit the Village of Big Bear Lake and the shops on Moonridge Road or any of
the special shops that line Big Bear Blvd. as it winds along Big Bear Lake and
throughout the Big Bear Valley. Check out Fawnskin on the North Shore,
too, for special treasures.
The Village also has two movie theaters,
bowling, the Alpine Slide, an arcade and great restaurants. You'll want
to spend at least one afternoon exploring.
What else? The Moonridge Animal Park (www.moonridgezoo.com) is a must see for
everyone. Home to animals that cannot be returned to the wild for various
reasons, the Park will surprise you with its exhibits that include a grizzly,
cougars, eagles, bison and a leopard! Be sure to schedule a visit during
the "feeding tour".
For information on hiking, biking and off
road trails, camping and nature tours including kayaking in Grout Bay, stop by
the Discovery Center on the North Shore. They also have a wonderful gift
shop with unique gifts, books and maps. (www.bigbeardiscoverycenter.com)
